No one really wants to be seated at the singles table, especially at your own best friends wedding, however with all of her friends firmly coupled up Poppy can’t help but feel like she has been pushed out of their little group being the only one not married。 Well she was married once but now she is divorced, well so she though! Which is how she finds herself on a wild adventure with her new bestie heading to the Scottish Highlands to get divorced finally, or will she?••I absolutely loved the sound of this book, No Exs Before Marriage was packed full of drama, comedy and such a heart warming story。 I absolutely loved that this book was not just some love story but also shows how friends can change as they grow and sometimes all we need to do is voice our feelings。••I really like that Portia always writes such real and relatable characters, and this was truly out girl Pops。 I think we can all relate to how she felt in her girl group, I will say that Kat was the best thing to happen to her! That chick was crazy! I absolutely loved getting to see Pops and Zac reconnect and how naturally it all happened。••Zac was definitely a cutie, I really liked the underlying tension that was there between him and Poppy throughout the book。 I absolutely loved the way he just rolled with having Poppy and Kat crash his wedding weekend。••I really liked the twist at the end to do with their divorce, this entire bit made the book all the more captivating。 I loved that it wasn’t only Poppy that was growing relationship wise but her dad as well。 I do have to say that I couldn’t stand Pops friends at all, talk about mean girls! But they did redeem themselves at the end。 My only criticism is that I wish the epilogue had more, it just felt rushed。••Overall this is most definitely a book that I would recommend! Not only does it have a feel good factor but it is genuinely a well written novel! 。。。more

This book was so cute。 It was funny, a little sad, and full of friendship。 Fake divorce is a new one for me。 Poppy's mom has passed away。 Her dad has discovered she never filed the paperwork for Poppy to get divorce。 She pretended it all went through because she wanted them to stay together。 So years later Poppy needs to find her ex and have him sign the paperwork。 Problem is, he is about to get married。 I really enjoyed this book。 It's a fun fast, feel good type of book。 Highly recommend!Thank This book was so cute。 It was funny, a little sad, and full of friendship。 Fake divorce is a new one for me。 Poppy's mom has passed away。 Her dad has discovered she never filed the paperwork for Poppy to get divorce。 She pretended it all went through because she wanted them to stay together。 So years later Poppy needs to find her ex and have him sign the paperwork。 Problem is, he is about to get married。 I really enjoyed this book。 It's a fun fast, feel good type of book。 Highly recommend!Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the ARC! 。。。more

It has always been the four of them in the Wife Club, and the first rule: is to talk about Wife Club all the time! But then Poppy doesn't feel like they're close as they used to, especially after her divorce。 Her friends often made couple plans without including her just for being single。 But then, what if。。。 her divorce never went through? I'm not sure why I requested this book in the first place。 I think it's the title that lured me in, and it's best to say: I'm glad I did。 For one, the summary is such a gain and loss。 There was barely anything for readers to latch on to what the book is about, but then, going into this blind sure made reading this better than expected! No Ex Before Marriage is a lighthearted, fun, and lovely story full of festive! I love how it was all full of twists; from making a new friend after being thrown into the 'single table", flying to Scotland to file a divorce, to reconnecting with your one true love。 And for a short pages book, Macintosh got the top with the writing as the book was packed with a lot of emotion, plot development, and well-rounded characters。 This brings forth for me to say, that I am enamored by Poppy! The book offers readers some flashbacks from when Poppy first dated Zac to the reasons things ended between them; giving more depth into their story。 You can see the differences between those two-time frames where both of them are more grown in the present than their past decision whose timing wasn’t quite right the first time around。 Poppy's character development was apparent even from a few flashback chapters and I love the level of maturity she takes when confronts with conflicts or dilemma。 Even when there were times the plot felt ludicrous to me, the author ended up justifying them well by allowing the characters to communicate like a real grown adult than causing havoc and emotional destruction (unlike those miscommunication trope pundits that I truly despised)。 I've yet to find any books with reconnecting themes that I truly enjoy but this book has bring the honor to be the first in my list! If you want some fun and light chick-lit where two characters reunited under odd circumstances; pitched in with some loving and thoughtful friendship, I can't recommend enough for you to read this! Cue a rush to Zac’s wedding location with a new (and a little crazy) friend, Kat。 Will Poppy get there in time and get all the paperwork signed so Zac doesn’t unwittingly commit bigamy? You’ll have to read to find out!I really enjoyed reading this story, I have to admit I did feel things were a little slow at the start until we met Zac but once we did, the story just flew。 I thought Poppy’s friends were horrific to her at the beginning, but I did change my mind about them later on! I absolutely adored the throw back chapters as they helped the story massively and I loved how they showed how Zac and Poppy got together。 I also wanted to highlight how well written Poppy’s experience was。 I don’t want to say too much as I don’t want to give any spoilers but having been through the experience myself, I thought the author absolutely nailed it。 All in all, I definitely recommend this book to any rom-com fans, it was a great little escape from reality。 I’m also really glad I discovered Portia MacIntosh and already have got another one of her books on my tbr list。Thank you to Netgalley, Portia MacIntosh and Boldwood Books for my advanced reading copy。 Due out 11th January 2021。 。。。more

Gosh this was a fun book for the new year。"No Ex Before Marriage" is a rom-com delight about Poppy, a '91 baby who's just turned 30 on New Year's Eve, and her journey towards the next step in her life: probably being single & happy about it。 For now, anyway。Except that's obviously not where this is going because you came for a rom-com, yes? Calling all Hollywood movie producers, please turn this book into a film, it feels like a film, it was like a movie running through my head the whole time and its completely fabulous, so deserves to be on a big screen。 I can't put my finger on whether this is loosely based on potentially an amalgamation of existing rom com movies, or whether its completely fresh and just written in a way that had the scenes playing out so so clearly in my head, but its brilliant! I've laughed quite a bit at this amusing story, which I whizzed through as it was just so readable and captured my attention so much more than quite a lot of the books that I've read recently。 It's reinvigorated me and reminded me just how much fun, and how much I really do love an excellently written rom-com。 (Not to say other books haven't been great, by my attention span has been iffy recently)。 I loved the race against time for Poppy to locate Zac at his new wedding, to explain that they are still married and that the divorce papers need re-signing。 The circumstances leading to this a great, and the location of Zac's upcoming nuptials, a massive castle in Scotland is spectacular。 Add in a new friend who is rather zany, some what are apparently out of character moments for Poppy as she tries to enjoy life, even though all her old friends seem to be freezing her out, and also flashbacks so we can see key moments of Poppy and Zac's relationship from the start to the end of it, and you have plenty to keep you entertained while reading this。 Utterly fantabulous, I just hope my wish comes true and that we can see this on a big screen in the future as it would definitely be a hit! Thank you to Boldwood Books and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily。 。。。more

I suppose I'll start small, by actually divorcing him, and then take it from there。" 》》The Plot《《 Poppy is a divorced woman in her very early thirties whose single status influences a lot of aspects, including her inner circle of friends。 At Rachel's wedding, one of her 3 best friends, it becomes absolutely clear that, being the last one in the group without a significant other, she's left out。 But that's when she meets Kat at the single's table and they bond surprisingly well, turning into fast friends。 So when her father informs Poppy that the divorce papers have never, in fact, been finalized and that she have to find Zac to sign them, Poppy can't think of anyone else to help her with this crazy mission but Kat。 Especially since Zac is about to get married with Lilac Strong, influencer and daughter of Sonny Strong, a movie star。But when the two women show up in Scotland, at the castle where the wedding is about to take place, Zac panics and tells his bride that they are cousins, which results in an extended invitation to the wedding for Poppy and Kat。 "Where do you think he's going?""I know where you wish he was going。 Your bed。""You mean our bed," I remind her。"I'm game if you are," Kat jokes。 I liked it a lot and it was funnier than I was expecting。 Kat was by far my favorite character, with her impulsive nature and original way of solving things or getting out of situations。 Poppy and Zac were sweet, but a bit infuriating, because it was clear they were in love with each other and it felt as if they were creating all those issues entirely by themselves。 However, I think that it showed pretty nicely that if something is meant to be, it will find its way back to you。 "I don't want to rub your make-up off," he says。"You give her black eyes, she'll give you black eyes。" Even though it was a romance, the thing I liked the most here was the portrayal of friendship。 Kat and Poppy had an epic friendship, something like love on the first sight in a platonic way, that promises adventure and no chances of boredom。 With Rachel, Lindsay and Sally, things were different a bit, but I think that not everyone can have that rebellious soul that keeps a friendship interesting。 I felt like things were more mature with the four of them and, even when they seemed less good friends, in the end you could see that all those years spent together meant something and when push came to shove, they were there。 "If life is short, then take good cake where you can get it, that's what I say。" All in all, it was a good start for my reading year and I recommend this to anyone in search of something light and sweet, with nice writing and a happy ending。 。。。more
